Learn to make banana juice, a popular elixir typically served at Rwandan weddings and parties, during this 8-hour course. You’ll start your experience by hand picking green bananas and dropping them into a hole in the ground for ripening. After enjoying an authentic lunch with your hosts, dig up your now-ripe bananas to start the juice-making process. Finish you day with a chance to shop for souvenirs at a local artisan market. Your banana juice course includes a guide, lunch and round-trip transport to the juice-making site.


Itinerary

Morning:

  • Departure from Kigali: Your day begins with a departure from Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda, accompanied by your local guide.

  • Journey to the Banana Plantation: Enjoy a scenic drive through the Rwandan countryside as you make your way to the banana plantation where you'll learn to make banana juice.

Banana Picking and Ripening:

  • Hand-Picking Green Bananas: Upon arrival at the plantation, engage in the traditional practice of hand-picking green bananas from the trees. Learn about the different varieties of bananas grown in Rwanda and the importance of bananas in Rwandan cuisine and culture.

  • Ripening Process: Participate in the unique process of ripening bananas by dropping them into a hole in the ground. Discover the natural methods used by Rwandans to ripen bananas to perfection, enhancing their sweetness and flavor.

Midday:

  • Digging up Ripe Bananas: After lunch, it's time to dig up your now-ripe bananas from the ground. Roll up your sleeves and join your hosts in the process of unearthing the bananas, marveling at their transformation from green to ripe.

  • Banana Juice Making: Learn the art of making banana juice from scratch under the guidance of experienced locals. Discover the step-by-step process of peeling, mashing, and straining the bananas to extract their natural juices.
